Back to Nature: Advanced Herbalism

This course builds upon the foundational knowledge of herbalism and provides a deeper understanding of the therapeutic properties and applications of medicinal plants. Students will explore advanced topics in herbal medicine, including the use of herbs for chronic and complex health conditions. The course will cover in-depth materia medica, including the therapeutic actions and indications for a wide range of herbs. Students will learn about the scientific research supporting the use of herbal medicine, as well as the traditional and historical uses of plants in different cultures, including Ayurvedic, Native American, and Chinese herbalism. In addition to materia medica, students will also learn advanced herbal formulation techniques, including the preparation of complex herbal remedies such as synergistic blends, compound formulas, and adaptogenic herbs. The course will also cover herbal safety and dosage, as well as methods of plant cultivation, harvesting, and processing. Throughout the course, students will engage in hands-on learning activities, including herbal medicine-making, plant identification, and herbal case studies.
